OpenFilmmaker was created so I could share my learnings on photography and film with others. My first camera was a Panasonic Lumix G7, so you will see articles on Micro Four-Thirds quite a bit.
I made many films with my friends while growing up and enjoy being behind the camera. In 2018, I joined a local film-making group to make a short-film. I was disappointed in the level of difficulty in aspects such as communication, experience, networking and collaboration. There were some strong personalities that had toxic behaviors. Luckily, I left the group to focus my energy elsewhere.
I find that the harder I work, the more luck I seem to have.– Thomas Jefferson
After this experience, I went to make my first two short-films with other groups. I am grateful for the experiences. However, I saw opportunities with improving how filmmakers network and collaborate.
With my background in software and passion for film/photography, I decided to create OpenFilmmaker.com in hopes to ease some of the film-making hurdles – so others don’t undergo the same situations that I did. Enter OpenFilmmaker Community. It’s still in infancy, but as this grows, I hope to use that space to help others find other filmmakers and create short films!
